Ooooh, how excting.
My first quilt was a small quilt that i made for my daughters Ciára. it was supposed to be a cot quilt, but I didn't take shrinkage into account when I made it and after washing it was way too small for the cot. It has become a cherished quilt between both my girls - firstly it was used in the pram and now the dolls have the privilege of being wrapped up in it, whether it is 10 degrees or 3o degrees! The fabrics are all floral and spots, they are badly placed, in a very basic design and the binding is very bodgy but with all the lovin' it has had, it has held together. This quilt though small and very basic, holds a special place in my heart, first finished and very much loved by my gorgeous gals! Hope I win so I get to read one of these books!!!!
My first (and so far, only finished) quilt was a small doll's quilt. It worked out fairly well except for the binding at the corners which is all wrong somehow :(
Ohhher how exciting!
My first quilt was a knee quilt for my Mum. Since I didn't know how to line up seams correctly, it was sort of wonky in places. On the bigger cream squares I planned to iron on photos of my family so it would become a memory quilt. Unfortunately because the iron on transfers needed a lengthy press time with the iron, I melted the poly filling a bit. (and the the reason why I only use cotton wadding now!) So in the end only the edge of the quilt had a few photos on it.
My Mum loves this quilt and cried her eyes out when she got it and was shaking like a leaf with emotion. :) I think that was a good gift! I am proud of how it turned out as a first piece.

My first quilt was crazy patchwork squares with candlewicking squares. I was going to classes with my mum at the quilting shop I worked at I was 14 when I made it. We still use it, although Im not thrilled with the colours with were all neutrals and browns. My mum candlewicked the center square so I know this quilt will become very special as time goes on as I dont have may items made by my mum because I could sew she never would sew for me. I remember wagiing a day off school to quilt it LOL
My very first quilt was a lap quilt for my Mum for Mother's Day last year using Amy Butler's Nigella pattern but a bit more simplified since I had only been sewing a couple of months http://www.flickr.com/photos/theprincessandthemonkey/2697174588/in/set-72157611412719904/. She loved it and uses it every night on the couch watching TV and knitting.
My first quilt was actually two quilts made at the same time (one for my sister's 18th birthday and one for us) while planning my wedding and teaching full time!! Over 5 years ago now!
I started my first quilt almost five years ago. It had a fantastic paisley feature fabric and I did the piecing in a 'beginners class' which I attended in the twelve hour break between consecutive twelve-hour night shifts instead of sleeping.
It is still only half quilted, and is folded up in the wardrobe in my sewing room. Every now and then I pull it out, cringe at the horrible quilting, resolve to unpick it and start again, then fold it back up and put it away again.
