I love Fridays! Miss K and I spend it together usually with one of our close friends, but today we were up early as my car is at the Dr's so we headed to the shops and boy did we have fun... I blew the budget (whoops) but have a few things put away for K's birthday in June. I also managed to grab something for Miss A who is celebrating her birthday this week! And then we sat down for a coffee together...
Mistake number 1 - use a highchair
Mistake number 2 - don't assume that the lady across from me who had a similar aged DD who was drinking from a takeaway cup was necessarily drinking hot chocolate (or something similarly bad - read further...)
Mistake number 3 - check to see what the froth / milk ratio of the babycino is before giving it to the girl to go wild with.
I realise now that the lady / daughter (mentioned in mistake number 2)... had a GREAT idea!!! Had I also got the babycino delivered in a larger takeaway cup with a LID, we may not have had milk all over me, the seat, the table, Miss K and the floor :o
Too funny!!!
Oh and another thing to brighten your Friday - a parcel at the front door... I won day number 1 in Kylies recent giveaway ~ thanks Kylie!!!
I've nothing crafty related to share (this would actually please some of my family who believe I'm a step away from the old peoples home considering my love of sewing and knitting and all that crafty related stuff!) I did get some bibs sewn for my SIL's baby shower last weekend, but in my rush to get out the door, did not have time to photograph :( I have however got another 3 here cut out ready to sew, so will be sure to take a piccie to share before I give them away!
I finished my foundation piecing course last Thursday night (it feels like a lifetime ago now!) I managed to get one block joined and it looks fabbo!!! I am yet to get back to the rest of the blocks, I've two more half done and yet another to even start - will update you on that progress in a years time ;)
In the meantime, between looking after a sick hubby (ok, ok, I'm not really looking after him) looking after a teething child (I hate teething!!!) and picking up a little outside work for ME ~ I've barely had time to scratch myself! I have however been doing my bit for the Read-a-thon 2009! I'm up to my 9th book and February hasn't even ended yet!
As you can see (if you're looking at my blog & not thru bloglines) I am currently reading New Moon. I had been planning to re-read the Twilight Series S L O W L Y as the first time around last year I flew thru them to get the full picture. This time around I'd planned to savour them... well what can I say ~ I've totally devoured Edward the first one and am chewing thru the 2nd at a fast rate, so at this stage - I should have all four finished by end of February!!! Hey what is the prize if you read 50 books for the year? A quilt? A book voucher? Or is it just self satisfaction? I must say I am really enjoying getting back into the reading, even if all my books are fluffy and light at this stage! I did warn you didn't I?
So back to Edward... I fell in love the first time around. I'm talking teeny bopper in lurve... puppy love and all that jazz. Total crush on the man and wished I could have him.
Then I saw the movie and Ok, Robert Pattinson was AWESOME in it... but I am going out on a limb here and will pronounce to the world (well my 5 readers anyhow) that the movie was less than awesome. I'm not saying it wasn't good... it was. It was just a let down after the books. Robert Pattinson however was a honey, not quite as I imagined him to be, but a honey all the same. He can bite my neck any day (OMG did I actually write that?)
This time around, I'm having a slight problem with my imagination of Edward. He keeps flicking from the Edward of my imagination and the Edward of the movie... hmmm... dilemna much? I'm leaning toward my imaginary Edward more, which is strange cause after reading Harry Potter and seeing the movies, all my 'imaginary' characterisations became null and void. Apart from the imaginary / Robert Edward. I can say I am still utterly in love with Edward, if anything my silly school girl crush has become full blown grown up love - LOL!
To the point that I am suffering Insomnia at night (let's not mention the headaches and the book idea that have kept me up the last few nights...) I am going out in Sympathy with the sleepless Edward - I tells ya!
So there you have it - lots of rambling, not much news. If you got this far - big congrats! I'm off now to read up on 150 blog entries (will you people please take pity on a slack arse computer checkerere and slow down the entries!!!) have some tea and go to bed with Edward - LMAO... it's funny because I'm taking the book to bed... captain obvious much?
Ok really must go - I'm not making sense now. Take care & will be back again!
I'm working backward I'm afraid. Kylie is still doing her weekly giveaway & I've just entered Day number 4!
And why not Day number 3 while I'm at it ???
And why do I keep letting you know of these giveaways? Because Kylie said we get an extra point for mentioning the giveaway on our blogs PLUS an extra for linking back to it :)
Let's cross fingers & see if I win anything eh?
Class number two completed! We sewed the eights together to form a quarter, then sewed two quarters together to get our halves. I was going exceedingly well until I was trying to join the 2nd quarters together and for some reason my machine kept skewing the paper to the point it was sewing off the line and ending up nearly 1/4 inch smaller than the other half. Thankfully we have been taught to baste first, so several bouts of unpicking, lots of swearing and the teacher checks the tension of my machine is on 3 instead of 2 *doh* so I unpick yet again and when I got home I tried it once more. STILL skewed... so I dropped the tension back to 1 and *yay* it worked!!!
Here are the two halves sewn up and ready for joining during class three!
And an arty farty close up shot so you can see my border fabric (and because I love seeing these types of shots on LWD's blog!!!)
To be honest - I was not completely 100% sold on the colours to start with. I liked them but together I was a bit hum, ho... but after seeing it form the halves ~ I'm in love... And if I can ever find daylight & no rain to photograph it - I may one day do justice to the sheer vibrancy of the colours ~ they are stunning (if I do say so myself!!!)
I really should be spending my time sewing more eighths together considering, I have only sewn down 2 pieces on another 16 blocks... I won't have anything to do at class if I don't get cracking tomorrow and the next day :o so if you don't hear from me, I will be chained to the machine and if I'm not sewing those ~ I'll be whipping up some bibs for SIL baby shower on Saturday - aaaahhhh....
I've attended two out of three foundation piecing classes now and this is the wrap up of class #1
From This pattern piece
To this foundation piece (my pics are dreadful - it was rainy and miserable day when I took the shot!)
Homework for the week was to piece enough of the 1/8's as pictured above to make one block (I can't tell you how pleased I am for choosing to do a wall hanger only. It is so tedious and time consuming - but thoroughly enjoyable too!)
We don't 'do' valentines day in our house. I'm one of them easy going wives who doesn't expect flowers, dinners, wine (beer in my case - wine makes me chunder) or romantic weekends away. Which is why most years I buy my own box of chocolates...
Today ~ Miss K & I went shopping with MIL. Big J was with his other true love ~ an old boat he is fixing up. I of course bought the obligatory box of choccies for myself (Roses ~ Yummy) and 2 bags of maltesers for Big J.
Imagine my surprise when Big J walked in from the boat and gifted me a box of these ~ Yummo ~
He's a dish!
I wonder if it's time to forgive him yet for spending our first ever valentines day (way back in '98) with Ozzie Osbourne :o
This wonderful blogger Kylies Stitch n Sew is celebrating her 100 posts with a giveaway! Not one measly giveaway. But a week of giveaways!!! Today is day 2 & she has listed a bag pattern and retro scraps.
Go & check it out ![]()
Edited to adjust my original post, my poor addled brain read a month instead of a week
Started Sunday night. Finished Monday night. First time in a long time I've finished a book in 24 hours
(helped by the fact that the little one is sick again & just wanted to sit at my feet or on my lap all day, so the housework is in a shambles - but very apt considering that's what this book was about!!!)
If you are looking for a light, fluffy (& funny read) this one's for you. There was no thought process involved and will definately go on the list as a 'summer holiday' book. Oh and the way she writes about a bare chested Nathaniel ~ hubba
hubba... made me remember my teenage years & going all giggly at the bare chested boys on the swim team - LOL
I have been busy reading (which in all honesty is what I want to be doing right now!) As you can see on the sidebar I have completed The Kite Runner ~ it took me a long while to get into the rhythm of reading this one. I'm not sure if it was because it was based in a different country (this is going to sound extremely stuck up, but I really can't handle reading books set in different countries. Give me a good old Australia Book any day!) I also found it would get moving along at a good pace then stop. Moving then stop. I HATE this in a book. Maybe it's just me because I have less time to read and if I'm tired I will tend to not take it in as much. It was also a bit too predictable for my liking. I wouldn't say it was a wasted read and it definately wasn't bad ~ just not my usual cup of tea.
Salvation Creek An Unexpected Life ~ Susan Duncan
Mum leant this one to me recently as she couldn't put it down. To be honest the first 150 pages bounced here, there and everywhere. A pet hate of mine. Initially there was no real direction and my head was left reeling at to where it was going at times (I should mention this is a memoir & I don't do auto or biographies well... I'm really stepping out of my comfort zone with this years book list!) After I got past the 150 pages - it got really good. It had purpose and the incredible strength of this woman struck a chord with me. It's a real life and death thought provoker. To sum it up the best is the line of her Buddhist friend 'everything that must be born, must die.' It struck a chord and will stick with me for a while. The ending is predictable & although she has since written a 2nd book ~ I've decided I won't be reading it at this stage as I feel her story ends well in the first book. (I will get to it eventually)
Next up - "the Undomesticated Goddess" Sophie Kinsella (already 25 pages in & am loving the fluffy read :) )
If I don't get off this computer soon when will I find time to read them all! Another four borrowed from the local library today and with titles such as "The bad mothers handbook" and "undomesticated goddess" I believe they are right up my alley...
Am having one of those weeks, the toddler has hit her stride and the terrible twos 5 months early... she's added biting to her repoirtoire of tricks.
& the domestic goddess to be (me) has been lost beneath the vast mountain of washing to be done, folded hung out. Not to mention the inch layer of dust and copious amounts of clutter smattering the surfaces of every where I look (added to that the toddler who believes in spreading out when she plays)
But who cares when I've been quilting? One quilt cut, sewn and cut again awaiting more sewing & my first foundation class starting tomorrow night - woot woot!!! Such Bliss!
My foundation piecing class starts this Thursday so I popped into the LQS last week to get some fabric for the class & to take advantage of the final days of 30% off! I walked in thinking I might make something in pinks & creams... walked out with these gorgeous colours! Can't wait to start the class!
I'm finally back with my machine after a LONG absence & have been busy piecing together some jelly roll strips! This will end up being a quilt for my SIL's baby who is due in April. I really hope it turns out ok ~ I'm a bit hesitant giving away a bigger quilt (just scared I guess) but I'm determined to gift a few this year!!! The fabric is Butterfly Fling ![]()
I am also planning a couple of sewing day's with mum so we can make some cloth nappies for the new arrival. Now to research some patterns / ideas for that :)
