It’s all about BAGS here…

And nope – not the homemade sewn up sort! Last night, I ditched my demure crafty librarian side and donned a tight black shirt, tight jeans and boots, added some red flashing horns

Horns

& joined a legion of hardcore fans to see AC/DC rock Brisbane!

The bags I speak of are under my eyes, a late night – combined with a head cold from sitting (& dancing) in the pouring rain and mascara smudged eyes…

For an ‘old’ band these 50 something rockers can really rock and shake the grandstands. Totally awesome concert – a once in a lifetime opportunity, or 2nd in a lifetime for ME! They Rocked!

And my horns? Well after letting the 2.5 year old have  a quick play with them this morning, they now take pride of place on my duchess with all my favourite people ;) but eventually they will reside in the collectables cabinet (one day I might show off some of my collections :) )

From the Scottish Highlands to the Aussie wilds!

2009_08080147

I’ve been buried in this book for the last month – OMG what an epic. It took me nearly a month to read – astonishing for me when usually I can knock her books over in next to no time. I admit getting rather stuck in the middle… where I felt the flow just wasn’t well flowing. It became very jumpy and I hate jumpy books. I can do them if it gives me enough of a rhythm to be going on with – but this was chopping and changing in short staccato bursts. Just not something my brain appreciated with all that’s been going down of late.

However I did enjoy the last half and eventually I will read it again – I feel I need to as I sort of skim read a lot of the Lord John Grey & William passages, but after doing some searching online, I have found that I should probably add the Lord John books to my reading list as they will make sense of this one more than it does now… I really hate being left high and dry and wondering.

So that completes Book TWO of 2010 – it’s a slow start, but I’m hopeful that the latest book “Outback Heart” gets me back into the swing of things. Actually Helen if you still read here on occasion, you might like to check this book out as it has a couple of mentions of your new home town ;) for everyone else, it’s a memoir style book on the life of Rod Ansell. Normally I don’t do memoirs, but this one is (so far) ok.

Gonna or Doer?

Are you a Gonna or a Doer? It’s becoming vastly obvious to me that when it comes to certain crafts I’m a Doer… others I’m petering toward being a Gonna…

Scrapbooking – Gonna Do it (one day)

Sewing Clothes – Gonna Do it (one day)

Crochet – Doer

Knitting – Doer then get bored

Quilting – Doer until handsewing the binding…

Well this is going to stop right here – right now!!! Here is my Gonna Do list and you know what – I’m gonna do it (one day!) LOL

2010 Gonna Do

- Knit Cable Scarf x 3

- Finish Knitting Lace Scarf

- Make another Cable Scarf

- Cast on a milo vest & actually keep going with it!

- Make Birthday Cards

- Get organised

I’ll revisit this a the end of March and see how much is still on the gonna list ;)

Mountain or the Gully

In terms of craft I am always either on top of the mountain or bumbling my way through the gully… no plateau here folks!

I’m feeling like I’m plummeting toward the gully, already I can’t see myself finishing February’s one per month challenge, but I do have lots of small (unfinished) projects on the go.

2009_07300110

After swimming last week, the girl and I got busy in the kitchen and following one of Becky’s links to Karina’s blog, we created something that should have resembled something like baked beads, but actually looks more like blobs of colour. Regardless – the girl had a ball & every time I gave her some to make a ball, she’d roll them up and make snakes (hence the funny shapes)

I would definitely recommend this craft, because even though our beads are slightly squishy (no doubt not long enough in the oven) we both had a ball making them PLUS it’s helping us with our counting… although we are still missing number 5!!! LOL

Baked Beads

Over the weekend, I decided to teach my 2 very best friends ‘how to quilt’ YES – ME! I taught someone else how to quilt – even though I still class myself as intermediate LOL!!!

We had a lovely day together and settled on a D9P pattern and I’ve just heard that one of the girls has finished her 9th and final block and will be getting a start on her sashing – what a great effort!!! This is what I made during teaching.

Placemat

I came home with 5 D9P blocks in cute eye-spy fabrics and when realising I couldn’t possibly handle yet another big quilting project decided to turn them into placemats, I’ve lined them with flannel and backed them with a cheap table runner type thing I picked up at the oppy for $2 – it reminds me of the sorts of table cloths my nanny used to use!

Placemat1

Very basic and not quite finished yet – I figure these will make cute little ‘extra’ presents for birthdays this year!!!

Some more work on my crochet blocks, another half finished block to add to the pile of growing blocks! So quick and therapeutic – if only I had more time to spread myself around!

2010 Quilting ~ #1 Playtime = Funtime

cannon 022

OH MY GOD. Seriously this quilt has been finished and awaiting patiently for me to hand sew the binding & label it since the new year. I nearly called it a 2009 finished as it was that close. So glad I didn’t. I thankfully finally pulled my finger out and finished the binding on Monday and labelled it this morning just in time to gift to his mother. FOUR months late! (well not exactly 4 months as this little man was a surprise gender… so I couldn’t very well start until AFTER he was born ;) but as his mum said better late than never!

Ode to my mailman

You are the man!

Last week I got some packages in the mail, personally I think DH is getting a little worried with the sheer volume of packages arriving at our front door. Thankfully I can manage to intersect them 3 days of the week ;)

First up was a package from a dear fellow blogger.  She sent me a a little care package just because ~ she is such a lovely lady!

Ruth's Package1

Ruth's Package2

Ruth's Package3

& then a couple of days later ~ a parcel from Retromummy arrived complete with my recent win on her blog! Yeehaa!

Some batting, a pattern from Two Little Banshees and some white quilters muslin – not shown as it is already in use on the super secret project I am currently working away on…

Aren’t I a lucky girl!

Of course after seeing the really neat knitting bag that Dani made for Becky in last years (not so ) Secret Santa Swap ~ I couldn’t resist making one for me… I might even show off a finished scarf sometime this year (Lol)
