From little things…

Big things grow…

YEAH! Like in 10 years or so ;)

Another Dear Jane Block – I’ve had the foundation paper printed out forever!!! Once I cut the fabric, I powered through it!

2009_10080063

Don’t mind the loose threads!

Another art journal card

W25 - a photo that means something to you…

2009_10080061

Me & my Nan – I’ve been missing her heaps recently!

Some happy mail arrived today – after losing some recent Berenstain Bears bids in ebay… I had a brainwave & checked out the book depository… for less than $4.00 delivered – how could I say NO! I’m ordering a couple each fortnight (along with my Sookie Stackhouse novels) and should have a good bundle to give to Miss K for her birthday in June!

2009_10080059

PLUS I got another Pay it Forward – this one arrived from Juni and I think that may well be the LAST one I signed up for! Please comment if you want a Pay It Forward… I didn’t get much interest in the last one ~ so I may have to do a draw later in May and just pick a few randoms to post stuff too!!!

2009_10080060

Inside – wrapped in some gorgeous cupcake tissue paper, was a beautiful little purse, a tissue holder (I so needed one of these ;) a monkey finger puppet and some lollies… of course the lollies are LONG GONE! Thanks Heaps Juni – just what  I needed to brighten my day!

I’m off to do something with my art journal…

‘meh…

Am having one of those moments – which seems to be lasting a few days. My pizazz seems to have been buried in the pile of crap that is littering my craft room… I thought getting a new trestle table to put up and down was a grand idea… I forgot the part that when it’s up – it is a great place for storing stuff. Lots of stuff… I’m now buried under there somewhere. The so called Pizazz could well have been lost with the monumental mistake I made in the super secret Quilt I’m currently (very slowly) making for a super special babe… monumental probably doesn’t cover it – but seriously what was I thinking when I cut down the centre panel in order to “fit” the 2nd border… upon adding the 4th round I’m half an inch over… ‘meh…

So I bring back the cards (adding to the above mess, but in practice for the Art Journal Class that is starting up THIS week!!!) and although I am finally realising these are about ME and my take on MY life… they just aren’t the ME I’m hoping to achieve today. Maybe tomorrow I will see them differently. I still sort of like them. Sort of.

W23 ~ Right Now…

2009_10040055

Recognise the use of the coloured paper-towel we made!!! It looks great with the black writing!

W24 ~ Remember when…

2009_10040057

This last card took it out of me… I am loving my new washy tape that arrived last week ~ and with 6 colours to play with… watch out journalling! But this just wasn’t what I had in mind…

Toddler Crafts…

2009_10010031

Unpicking (do NOT attempt to make things when your tired and suffering a sinus headache!!!)

Unpicking

Eye Candy… Good for the soul…

Eye Candy

Crocheting Squares… I’m aiming to finish 5 this week, 2 down!

Crochetin'

Hanging of the Quilts (finally!)

Hangin'

How’s your week been? It’s raining here today (think bucketing down) so we’ve been cooped up indoors doing lots of crochet, eating, painting, sewing and playing with Barbie stuff!

Friday, April 16, 2010

You know your tired when…

You sit down to sew together some squares

20 squares later you realise you ran out of bobbin thread

18 squares ago…

How embarrassment!!!

The Growing Family!

Miss K and I decided to add to our brood of pets today!

Meet Sizzles!

A little brother (?) for Oscar

and Buddy

& here’s another of our little Staffy – just for Selina!!!

scan0001

This was when my Husband set up his home business, most days you could find Staffy curled up on his computer desk… between the keyboard and the scanner ;)

I hear his farts were pretty lethal though… imagine sitting next to that arse!!!

Toddler Craftin’

I had promised Miss K that we could do some painting after her nap on Wednesday, so following a tutorial found here, the girl and I got to work! As it was a ‘toddler’ craft, I decided to use water and food colouring only.

Paper towels ready to go… I’m not sure if the Americans use a different paper towel to us, but mine didn’t quite turn out the same… I do have some napkins that I will use next time! Actually I’m even considering using some toilet paper :o (obviously UN-used!)

 2009_09260018

Instead of painting, we used a medicine dropper and dripped the colours onto the towel. By the end, the colours were becoming quite dark & murky…

2009_09260019

Hanging them to dry!

2009_09260023

More drying!

2009_09260024

Dried paper towels – the one on the top left has been ironed. It’s not quite as thin as I’d have expected – but a really good experiment regardless!

2009_09260028

And a lot of fun for both me and the toddler!

From Squares to triangles…

For the last few months it’s been all about the squares… today it’s the humble triangles’ turn.

2009_09240012

So tell me – do you have any crazy piecing techniques when you sew? Here’s mine from today…

2009_09240014

Yes – they are MY legs, covered in triangles ready for sewing together. I’d forgotten how lengthy a process it is when working on a relatively big quilt (well bigger than I’m used to ;) when you have so many pieces and this is just ONE border!

2.5 hours of (fairly) solid of cutting & sewing ~ I now have

  • 288 triangles sewn together
  • 144 squares
  • 8 rectangles
  • 12 full pinwheels completed

*******************************

A quick update from my last post – my mum found me some mini canvas’s over the weekend, so I don’t need any now ;) Selina if you found any on your travels, am happy to still buy off you… I could always make a set for Miss K!

A little *HELP*

PLEASE!!!

Remember a while ago, I posted here about some lovely letters I had received from my friend Ruth?

Car2

Well she was so lovely & kind enough to send me another four letters spelling Rose, so I can make it into a CARROSE to hang in my sewing room…

I have a problem though!!! Upon returning to Crazy Clarks (cheap store) where I had originally purchased the 4 mini canvases… they are OUT OF STOCK. A second look at another Crazy Clarks – & again no stock. I’ve had no luck at Spotlight nor Warehouse as they both have the wrong sizes.

*cry*

I’m calling out for help. If any of you have a cheap store in your town and are willing to have a look for me, I would be eternally GRATEFUL! They were sold in packs of 4 and I believe they were only around $ 5 / pack.

Measures: approx 7cm x 5cm.

I am willing to pay all postage / costs…

Loving Sundays *heart*

Whilst Qld is currently experiencing a heat wave… in Autumn for heavens sake… we’ve had one of those lazy Sundays, recharging the batteries from a recent bout of illness & gearing up for the week ahead…

There’s been reading (finally a book that is not about vampires or death…) this one is all about Quilting *heart*

Reading

Which of course – kick started my desire to be one with Queenie AND get moving on the Quilt I started at the beginning of the year for a special little babe who is now pushing FIVE (5) months :o

Baby S Quilt

2 borders have been added today & I’m currently cutting out a million triangles for these cute little blocks

Baby S Quilt 1

Plus a spot of crochet for Miss K’s Blanket… 5 completed!

Miss K Blankie 1

I’m not 100% on the red now I’ve done a full block in it… I’ve decided to keep going and see how it looks with all the blocks mixed together… hopefully once some of the other ‘brighter’ colours are done, it will blend a little easier and not stick out like a sore thumb!!!

Shame it’s back to work tomorrow – I’m seriously on fire with my crafting!

Friday Fun!

Today we called in sick to Swimming (the little Miss has a nasty cough and mummy has the Man Flu) instead we stayed home & cracked open the new packet of plasticine!

I am a little Piggee

… it would seem moulding figurines is probably not my forte…

I am a little Frogee

… the toddler seemed to like them though…

***********************

While Miss K was having some morning tea, I cracked open the HUMUNGOUS box of Stampin’ Up product that arrived

2009_09190003

(mum – I have your stamps – we will have to catch up again soon) I threw myself a “catalogue party” with Me, Myself and I (and mum) and boy oh boy, did I get some great freebies!!!

2009_09190004

…. of course I had to test run them all as I assembled them…

***********************

This afternoon while the little one sleeps, instead of sitting down and resting (like you should when you have the Man Flu) I totally made a mess and started on my first ‘bonus’ project for the Online Art Journal course…

AJ class

I totally have NO Idea when it comes to ART, but boy is this FUN and oh so MESSY!!!

Somebody Stop Me…

Like I haven’t got enough on my plate already…

Like I actually can find an extra 5 mins a day…

Like I have any idea on what constitutes as ART…

Care to join me on this ride Story of my life ~ a 6 week (online) course on Art Journalling ~ maybe you will learn a little more about ME by the end of it… (or it may just confirm your fears that yes I am really and truly C.R.A.Z.Y… crazy for craft!)

As seen on Melissa’s blog :)

Where’s the weekend gone?

I can’t believe my 4 day weekend is all but over :( I’ve had a great weekend in terms of crafty endeavours… not so great in nursing the sick and calming the 3yo tantrums.

Another great day yesterday, churning out 2 more cards

W 21  - Redeeming Qualities (this card did NOT turn out how I wanted it to… you live and learn I guess!)

W21 REDEEMING QUALITIES #1

W22 – Want to learn (THIS card is my favorite so far!)

W22 LIKE TO LEARN #1

Supposed to be a form of mixed media… I really love it!

W22 LIKE TO LEARN #3

How straight are my free motion lines??? Yeehaa!

I also started on all those balls of wool (anyone notice it was actually 25 balls – not 24!!!)

 Miss K blankie

I think I might go curl up on the lounge and do some more!

A spotlight I will go…

A few weeks back, I received a catalogue from Spotlight in the mail with some gorgeous colours in the Moda vera 100% wool 50gm balls. They looked so lovely (and cheap) that I marched myself and the girl there the very next day.

Only to find some drab looking colours, not at all like what they pictured :(

Yesterday I decided to take a trip there again while the little one was sleeping. Maybe it was the un-encumbered mindset of not having to race after a very fast 2.7 year old. Maybe it was a relaxed mind after re-discovering  my crafty mo-jo on Friday. Perhaps it was the $ 2.00 / ball price tag that made these all the more appealing to the eye.

Either way….

2009_09130016

TWENTY-FOUR of these balls made it into my basket… yes 24!!!

2009_09130017

Aren’t they so pretty…. I’m planning a bright crochet blanket for Miss K, probably a mix between granny squares and into the blue squares (as seen here

With crafty mo-jo, comes great ideas for more crafting… now to find that elusive time… it’s not every weekend I get 4 days off!!!
